Abdicant :: In-Group (Mahorka)

A calm set of aural vistas drenched with reverberant and blissful low-frequency strands that all mesh together.

Strangely captivating peaks and valleys throughout

August 1st saw the release of Abdicant’s In-Group where six original pieces are conjoined with five remixes from friends and sonic purveyors. As a Boston-area lover of synthesizers and synth music, Jeremy Rice finds sublime electrical tones, drones, and strangely captivating peaks and valleys throughout. The moods here, while seemingly melancholic and downtempo, provide just enough contrast between the originals and renditions, to act as a whole. Meandering blips’n bleeps and ambient fizz-fuzz veils are balanced and uplifting, giving each piece a sense of presence that is engulfing. Where Abdicant drifts and swells with an atmospheric plume, the remixes cascade with each artists’ unique sonic trajectory. 4T Thieves with a classic, early 90s-era, Artificial Intelligence (Warp) sensibility, Pandacetamol with minimal bleep-techno fissures, The Circular Ruins with minuscule and spherical clicks’n cuts, Weldroid with surreal dark-ambient clusters, and Tomoroh Hidari with fine-tuned downtempo glitch finagling. Overall, a calm set of aural vistas drenched with reverberant and blissful low-frequency strands that all mesh together.
