scav :: The Second (Mahorka)

scav finds solace in peculiarly compelling minimized clicks and cuts where skillfully weaved ambient noises mingle with darker soundtrack elements producing pleasant tones to the core.

The opening credits for The Second notes that “scav is the artist name of Sofia-based ambient enthusiast and modular synths experimenter Krasi Yonchev—a trained acoustician and professional recording studio designer. He is the main brain behind the engineering studio Acoustic Waves and part of the people initiating Atmospheric Festival in Bulgaria.” Credentials aside, The Second offers nine subdued works with modest experimentation and ambient sound fields that flicker and jitter our surroundings. Yet, scav finds solace in peculiarly compelling minimized clicks and cuts where skillfully weaved ambient noises mingle with darker soundtrack elements producing pleasant tones to the core.

Barely audible, yet shifting between Pole-styled static melodies reminiscent of 1, 2, and 3 (Mute), every piece finds its place within the many layers of ambience and impromptu mood shifts that are revealed throughout. Futuristic components give way to a distinctive auditory experience, with each piece seeming like its own journey. As a result, these modular extended psychedelic soundscapes take over the terrain, producing dreamy and breathtaking vistas that are impossible to look away from.
