Mathieu St-Pierre :: Online Messages in Cardboard Boxes (Mahorka)

A sophomore album that delivers highly textured and darkened cyberspace compositions—expanding, contracting and ultimately unfolding the interwebs’ strange sonic universe.

Constructed by scavenging the net for sound textures

As stated in the liner notes, Online Messages in Cardboard Boxes was “constructed solely by scavenging the net for sound textures and later altering and arranging them to create unique soundscapes.” An intense experiment—and one that yields surreal results as tethered drones and tones weave their way through lost alleyways, lucid audible sculptures, and dizzying atmospheres. Sounds come to life just below the surface as Mathieu St-Pierre takes a scenic traverse allowing these nine dreamlike strands to flicker, fade, and flow into unusual scraping patterns. A sophomore album that delivers highly textured and darkened cyberspace compositions—expanding, contracting and ultimately unfolding the interwebs’ strange sonic universe.

Online Messages in Cardboard Boxes is accompanied by a set of conceptual videos for the album tracks, courtesy of the visual artist Mathieu St-Pierre himself. While some of the video material has already been uncovered, used as part of the release promotion on the Mahorka’s Facebook video channel, the whole video set is yet to be made available in 4k on the artist’s YouTube channel.
