Hypnos :: Vindictiveness (Mahorka)

These audible formations have more to do with mystery and exploration than any particular genre or musical style. A timeless and fully engulfing journey.

Unfolding the fabric of techno’s vastness

From a distant universe we’ve yet to explore, Hypnos’ third album dives full throttle into the deepest technoid fissures, chiseling sound structures and sources into hundreds upon hundreds of shapes and sizes. Most impressive throughout these dozen tangled sonic segments is the range of ideas that develop, breakdown, and reassemble themselves on Vindictiveness. It’s as if the artist sought to reassess the tangled mechanics of techno, its deeper cosmic meaning, and to coalesce these ideas with machines.

There are moments of heavy low-end thuds and rhythmic synergies blending ever so carefully into dense blips’n bleeps that at times wash ashore unbeknownst to the listener, and at other times hypnotic minimal techno-spheres alter our state of consciousness. These are sounds from the center of abandoned warehouses at 2am. Hypnos manages to sculpt baffling soundscapes and scorched rhythms, bending and unfolding the fabric of techno’s vastness.

Blending atmospheric acid washes and shuffling beatwork with tumbling bass, Vindictiveness is a mesmerizing collection of darker sonic treasures that are sometimes shapeless and meandering. These audible formations have more to do with mystery and exploration than any particular genre or musical style. A timeless and fully engulfing journey.
