Particules’ Escape Path is a tidal wave of sound structures, with nine tracks of meticulously arranged chaos. The music of Particules (aka Victor Prodanov on Machines and programing, and Tsvetan Momchilov on French horn, vocals, synthesizers and percussions) features an organic assortment of rhythms and pulses that feel alive and activated, ranging from disturbed yet brittle ambient electronics (“Auf,” “Island,” “FUBAR,” and “Zu”) to scorched dark ambient / industrial fragments (“Ignition,” “Avide,” and “Shadows”) to glitchier abstracts (“Beyond,” and “Milan.”)
Take a listen to “Ignition,” which is possibly the highlight on the album, to hear how flickering voices carefully maneuver around electrical beat patches and subtly infused atmospheric threads. Yet “Avide” feels like an extension of “Ignition,” with recognizable rhythmic alterations that meld and intensify to create an unsettling sense of wonder and awe. While the glitch and clicks of “Milan” create dreamy, gothic atmospheres as they drift through the clouds, Escape Path offers a fresh electronic take on curiosity, fear, and bewilderment and easily inches its way into our Best of 2024 list.
