Wave Resistance :: ø (Mahorka)

ø is a formidable collection—unyielding and magnetic. Its unraveling of fierce electronics and warped rhythmic intent cements it as one of 2025’s most unforgettable releases. Stark. Brilliant. Relentless.

Seven tracks orbit around ø, commencing with “Delocalized,” where detuned machinery grinds against itself—metallic clashes, mechanical churns, and a harsh, shell-like industrial edge. As “Edges” follows, it corrodes further into acidic spirals and a mesmeric, decaying ambience. Released by Mahorka to mark a decade of Theo Kovalev’s Wave Resistance project, this final installment in a planetary arc—first launched with White Point via CRL Studios in June 2015—has been meticulously mastered by Anatoly (Tokee) Grinberg. Each sonic junction is laced with unstable electrical surges and raw, unpredictable energy.

“Recombination” feels unearthed from distant cosmic zones, infused with glitch-ridden machinery and the residue of forgotten factories. “Phöenix” rises not in fire, but in glistening ambient shadows, encircled by cinematic tremors and fractured percussive echoes. “Fragmentation” breathes slowly to life, animated like rusted tech reclaiming sentience. The final descent—”Combustion” and “Plunge”—pushes into volatile territory: the former pummels with scuffed rhythm and errant bleeps, while the latter sinks into an industrial fog, where scorched signal paths and convulsive repetition claw at buried circuits.
