Ultimately an EP that references early IDM years, including “connection” points such as Proem, Ochre, The Flashbulb, and Bad Loop—it’s succinctly mechanical and utterly balanced front to back.

Tangled bleeps and rhythmic blocks combine

Panopticum’s Apophenia features a half-dozen collection of cohesive “connections” that bring together minimalist electrical chaos and potent sound design components. Apophenia is the propensity to perceive significant connections between seemingly unconnected things. Within this EP we find orderly chaos, where tangled bleeps and rhythmic blocks combine to create leftfield techno formations (see “Carpathians”) and melancholic ambient electronica such as “If I was shipwrecked on a deserted island.” With its roughened beat pulsars, “Until Everything Becomes One” and the opening track “Proton” introduce harsher tones and glitches as highlights of the lot. Ultimately an EP that references early IDM years, including “connection” points such as Proem, Ochre, The Flashbulb, and Bad Loop—it’s succinctly mechanical and utterly balanced from front to back.
