Precision beat patterns, subtle clicks’n cuts, and expansive background noises add to the mystique on this 7-track manifesto.

Muted, microscopic, and minimal techno extracts

A fine line between muted, microscopic, and minimal techno extracts find calm within Dr.Nojoke’s sonic machinery. Precision beat patterns, subtle clicks’n cuts, and expansive background noises add to the mystique on this 7-track manifesto. Echoes, loops, and hypnotic swells surround each piece—seven audible siblings with their own unique adaptations and subtle differences.

“Berlin Gamelan #2,” in particular, grabs my attention with its persistent punctuation and aural flow as “#1” runs for only 89 seconds and provides ample echo, Gamelan rhythm, and an organic ensemble style. A pleasantly drifting vibration appears on version “#3,”  carefully treading through 90s-era electronics that the likes of 808 State were known for—bright and bubbling bits and bytes never lose their focus. As the release pushes forward, clinical and classic Monolake-like electronic elements are set. Polished electrical tones and drones flicker around 4/4 patterns (ref. “4” and “5”) as Berlin Gamelan closes with surreal ambient undertows, both eerily dark and utterly pulsing.

This release also has a backstory leading us to its beginnings going back to 2007 as these pieces finally see the light of day. Visit Bandcamp for more information.
