The sometimes frenetic breaks and beats avalanche are counterbalanced by punctuated low-flying rhythms, taking us to those brittle and precision IDM releases of yesteryear (ref. Brothomstates, Karsten Pflum, Proem, Xela, Gimmik et al).

Blissfully orchestrated and saccharine electronic bristles to tickle our senses

Composition and production by Vincent Fugère, Aeon Cub presents Vacant King on the consistently on-point Kaer’Uiks imprint—a CD and digital edition adding to their electronic music catalog. While Aeon Cub seeks to fragment glitch tentacles and blistered sound design, it’s his use of diced melody that stands out.

The sometimes frenetic breaks and beats avalanche are counterbalanced by punctuated low-flying rhythms, taking us to those brittle and precision IDM releases of yesteryear (ref. Brothomstates, Karsten Pflum, Proem, Xela, Gimmik et al). Aeon Cub doesn’t just adhere to nostalgia but also takes a step forward with raw instrumentation on several subtle yet succinct sound bytes. These audible nuggets are interspersed throughout Vacant King (ie. “Character Creation,” Functions Not,” and “If its a Fight you Want”)—electrical morsels full of texture and creativity.

Elsewhere, tracks like “Vacant Lot” and “Collapse and the Meadow” want to break free from their braindance shell—polished rhythms flutter about the audio spectrum only to be grounded by dark drum’n bass contortions. The constant on Vacant King is in its subtle and subdued glitch elements—”Vague Thomas” provides just enough blips, bleeps and arcane moods ricocheting between crafty production techniques and improvised soundscapes.

Continuing with the glittery, almost glowing glitches, “Cheat Death” and the title track provide dulcet tones and fluid bits and bobbles—highlights that evolve, break down, and create atmospheric soundtrack moments. Overall, Aeon Cub delivers blissfully orchestrated and saccharine electronic bristles to tickle our senses.

Vacant King is available on Kaer’Uiks. [Bandcamp]
