A baffling mixture of heavy bass, drums and drifting voices that pluck at the heartstrings once again.
Two tracks that pack enough fuel as an entire album
I still go back to Aeon Waves’ Mute Angel EP (Mindtrick, 2018) regularly, described as a “mesmerizing swirl of ambient downtempo dub and subconscious voices is almost too emotional to take in one sitting…“—and it also made our Best of 2018 list. Now we see the India-based musician offering two tracks for Onset Audio—a baffling mixture of heavy bass, drums and drifting voices that pluck at the heartstrings once again. “Anthropocene” is the opener with drenched and chopped-up drum’n bass—its emotive backdrop can’t be ignored as it pushes into the outer atmosphere with far-reaching vocalized beauty. “Degenerate” follows in a similar trajectory, even if a bit slowed down—the skittering flow and shuffled rhythm blast continues to explore an ethereal landscape as chanting mantras drift in the background with halftime percussion and low-end propulsion that is utterly contagious. Two tracks that pack enough fuel as an entire album.
