Cathode Ray Tube :: Imperfect Vessel EP (Condition Human)

CRT distinctively combines scorched electronics and panoramic imperfections to create a unique blend of powerful soundtrack motifs.

Imperfect Vessel is inhabited by crunchy and heavily processed glitch morsels created by the prolific and indomitable Cathode Ray Tube. It seems as though CRT (aka Portland, Maine-based Chang Terhune) has arrived on an uncharted planet as he continues to broaden his sound sources with expansive and shattered rhythms—all tracks register over eight minutes apiece. “Radiant One” features rhythmic swirls and sequences. The tune is carried by a chugging percussive backbone, which conveys synthesizer blips and bleeps over an industrial core. While the rough and tough texture of “Cognizance” scrape the landscape with shrapnel beat work and frantic atmospheres, the multifaceted “Shinseki Soundboi” carries with it an abundance of found sounds, clicks and cuts, and a maze of sparkling melodic slivers that feel generative and building upon themselves.

With Imperfect Vessel, CRT distinctively combines scorched electronics and panoramic imperfections to create a unique blend of powerful soundtrack motifs, particularly on the epic finale “Wilkommen Auf Bleepstadt” with its downtempo glitch entanglement. Ultimately, all that remains as the EP closes is a faint shadow of itself.
