Veelargo :: Sync Phoney EP (Mutoscope)

The understated yet piercing tones transport us back to a period of time when musicians such as Richard Devine, Proem, and Esem cultivated roughened sound textures and blended them with hypnotic rhythms.

Veelargo’s Sync Phoney, a collection of four tracks from late November 2023, explores hard-edged IDM realms. “Foggy Thingy,” with its darker shadows and definitive bass thuds, opens the EP. With “Pusk,” Veelargo moves into expressive, softer pads, utilizing cutting-edge electronics and expansive sound design from the periphery. Reaching the halfway point on “Questch” and “Air Bug (szczyb),” and the understated yet piercing tones transport us back to a period of time when musicians such as Richard Devine, Proem, and Esem cultivated roughened sound textures and blended them with hypnotic rhythms. In contrast to a collage of darker, beat-heavy tunes, “AM – BOT” closes with saccharine melodies and an ambient ebb and flow that gently ushers us into the horizon. For fans of slightly overcast IDM, this EP is very effective and engulfing.
