[Listen | Purchase] Alien picturesque movement across alternative continents and worlds, Illusion of Movement can become an expanded journey, but does tend to lean on a more linear approach musically.
Full of steady pulses and whisper like vocals “Barefeet,” is a perfect illustration for such displays of gentle opinion with the subtle intrusion of ambient voices. Building gradually with mild acoustic guitar additions, it develops into a more rounded popular sound, yet still maintaining ambient lustre. The title track progresses with a similar theme, featuring a strong pulse and yet more interesting voiceovers – a perfectly titled demonstration of full on rhythm and interchange, evident in its bass driven workout. The distant faint whistle that defines “H.A.P.P.Y,” is enhanced with an engaging interaction between husky male vocals and contrasting light female backing – a superb distinction on a background of zigzagging bass. Midway, it launches into a drum and bass like feel with a frenzied summary of beats and buzzing bass lines. Vocally this is one of the more notable tracks.
Taking on a distinct acidic feel is “Coming down.” It leads on to a very untypical tropical texture with yet more signature whisper like vocals, making
this track later emerge into an industrial landscape completed with familiar sensations. “R.P.E” flaunts a French vocal while “Computers Words” gives off its slightly surreal alien workshop feel. “Tom Horn Song” weaves some eerie webs of sound. The interaction between male and female vocals on this track produces catchy harmony plus a sense of story to engage the listener. Wolf like sounds linger in the background as strong beats shape the track. There are more adventurous effects producing vibrant hues that give a sense of eastern inspired flavour alongside the traditional.
