The new SURFACE 10 release In Vitro Tide is an edited version of tracks Dean had recorded since his first release in 96. He has intricately pieced the tracks together digitally, mutating the music into something for daring listeners. In Dean’s words: “The idea behind this was to present the music from the point of view of the machines themselves, as if they were living beings capable of feeling and expressing emotion. In Vitro Tide captures the machine’s imagined sentiment of timeless sincerity through a series of experimental approaches and techniques.” In Vitro Tide presents a new portrait of technology as an evolving species, and is a profound addition to the electronic music world.
In 1996 Dean De Benedictis released his self-titled debut CD, Surface 10, on Hypnotic Records (a subsidiary of Cleopatra Records), gaining him recognition in the electronic ambient genre. In 1997 Dean then collaberated with George Sara (of THC) under the name Cathexis on another full length project for Hypnotic entitled Exempli Gratia, which then earned him some notoriety in the techno/trance realm. Since that time Dean has continued to create tracks, some of which have appeared on various compilations and tribute CDs.
In Vitro Tide is available on DiN.
