Surface 10 is the guise out of which Dean De Benedictis programs his strange electronic excursions. With Vector Fable being his debut release on Evenum, it won’t be long until Surface 10 gains international recognition in the closely nit fabric of experimental music.
Stepping away from the current onslaught of challenging electronics, De Benedictis relies on (older) mechanical rhythms to create his own atmosphere of digital debris. On Vector Fable, several industrial elements, obscure samples and meandering ambience melt in the most original fashion leaving the listener in complete disillusion. If you’re not left with a deep emotional thought, a quirky smile, or with a question mark in your mind, you may as well not have a pulse. Tracks like “Service 10 Rendered”, “This Will Sting”, “My Efforts” and “It Utters in Stealth” are only a few of the highlights on this peculiar full-length relying on a limitless platter of dark electrical pathways.
Dean also operates the Evenum record label, and if Surface 10 is any indication of the sounds that are upcoming, it’ll be a pleasure to hear future releases in this vein. Being released as a limited edition, copies won’t last long.
As the liner notes suggest, “Generated of ashes born into limitless space and then dying”.. indeed!
