When you’re driving alone on a desolate road in the middle of nowhere, Smakfull Elektronik is what you want to be listening to. A faint melodic thrust of casual beats move in the most abstract form on this 12″ compilation of relaxed electronics.
Released in September of 2000, this (limited to 500) 12″ contains 10 tracks of flawless experiments in ambient glitch territory. That’s not to say that these sonic bubbles of ambience aren’t treated with melodic outbursts and unusual moods. Smakfull Elektronik is Martin Abrahamsson’s
way of showing the world that Saundart is a place where warm melodies punch-out at the end of the day. As Martin explains, “Saundart is our secret box of neat retro/future electronics.” That couldn’t have been put any better with the initial release of this tasty compilation.
Many unknown artists make an appearance on here such as Flawless Filippo who somehow manages to grasp my attention the most; A peculiar squeaking sound subtly moves around an itching beat that cries for attention, and it does so with finesse. Arovane’s “E_Threl” (exclusive to this compilation) doesn’t seem to have much flavor compared to the effect he’s had with City Centre Offices’ and the Din label; on this track a thick melody is driven across a faint percussive movement. Plod’s “Boyta” is just as pleasant as looking out of a window on a warm spring day to see several birds flying by. Highly reminiscent of their debut full length, Pillow Talk on Worm Interface. Inkinen picks up the pace with the upbeat and dub infused track called “Lololo”, while Bauri (aka Martin Abrahamsson) bounces around with an energetic electronic vibe that can be classified as experimental dub with funk infested tweaks rounding the edges (much in line with his Pitchcadet 12″, Ninjafik EP.
Overall, Smakfull Elektronik is a pleasant voyage into a quite room where electrical debris and dust seem to enjoy themselves.
