Simon Spiess (aka Late Bloøm) is a young and versatile sound artist based in Switzerland with roots in spacious, tape loops, and micro-tonal explorations. I discovered his sound miniatures and evocative electronic sketches a while ago with the quite impressive FELD, a powerful, hypnotic, blurred out electronic, decaying and celestial symphony for looped techniques and various altered tape analog sounds intercepted by leftfield IDM grooves.

Next to his more abstract sound research and sonic experimentations for electronic devices, Simon Spiess is also an accomplished musician as saxophonist and crossover-jazz music player—in this regard l warmly advise to give a try to Simon Spiess‘ trio. This new album is published by the interesting French based Sonic Dialogue who offers a nice catalog of unconventional electronic music, venturing with originality and spirit into texturally enriched and heart-moving soundscapes with a sophisticated experimental edge.

Fading Flower is an intricate happy-sad electronic release which starts with a windy nostalgic tune—a rather sombre and ethereal lament to carry shimmering, diaphanous, and engulfed semi-acoustic timbres for the piano perpetuum; guitar chords sustained by tremendous bass lines, reverbed brassy tones, and discreet electronic ingredients. All serene but still with a nostalgic flavor.

Tracks like “Germination” demonstrate more dynamic electro-tinged sequences. The rest is equally serendipitous, alternating meandering textures for treated acoustic sounds and emotionally vibrant glitch-esque moods as in the curious “Unforseen Force of Nature.” Recommended for followers of eclectic, tasteful, hybrid, and occasionally syncopated post-ambient synth-wave sounds of Aria Rostami, Wil Bolton, Black Swan, Purl, Lamasz, Monolyth & Cobalt, and everything touched with airy, kinetic and reflective sound sculptures.
