Late Bloøm (Simon Spiess) :: FELD (Sonic Dialogue)

It may take several listens to really appreciate the calming ambient mélange of raw synth notes, fuzzily looping tapes, and absorbing electrical soundscapes that Simon Spiess unleashes here.

Simon Spiess’s aural shadows and audio collages under his Late Bloøm alias reveal eight dreamlike Polaroids of transient reminiscence, introspective revelations, and a great emphasis on texture courtesy of FELD released on Sonic Dialogue—which aims to “recontextualize each artists’ source samples, identifying the universe within them, and crafting a new musical dialogue.” With its roughened tones and drones, reflected layers, and translucent synths, FELD feels like a time capsule that is exclusive to each listener and provides scenic kaleidoscope views.

These ambient pieces seem to be calling to us from a distance. Eerie windswept soundscapes of recollections and muted bleeps and pops envelop the listener; glittering glitch explosions and disoriented yet peaceful sound bubbles break through pulsating static pulsars, aged machinery, and detuned pianos.

Each composition, captured in real time over the course of three days, have a vastness that makes them seem like they have been carefully aging for decades. And on that note, it may take several listens to really appreciate the calming ambient mélange of raw synth notes, fuzzily looping tapes, and absorbing electrical soundscapes that Simon Spiess unleashes here. A seriously captivating and surreal listening experience.
