Helping the listener to disconnect from the constant noise
Simon James has created a beautiful and open space in his latest album release Electronic Breeze. Much at home as a release on Lo Recordings roster with the likes of Susumu Yokota, James’ album treats your mind to a very wonderful and gentle brain massage. Originally created as a sound installation for The Lowry Gallery in Salford, this album makes use of Buchla modular, wind chimes, Kalimba, and field recordings. There are two songs on this release: “A Sound has An Inside” and “The Eyes Connect,” both helping the listener to disconnect from the constant noise in modern life and take solace in the space between—especially with both tracks coming in at over 30 minutes.
“A Sound has An Inside” brings back memories of being a child and some distant house’s windchimes singing in the background while a gentle breeze spins about. There is a slow and steady evolution to this track that doesn’t repeat and gives a sense of being in the present. There are similar musings on “The Eyes Connect,” and there’s also a more playful nature here—not as fluid and dreamy as the first track—that helps differentiate and lend evolution to the album as a whole. Thoroughly enjoyed coming back from a long road trip and decompressing to this album. Thank you for the brain cleanse!
