Compelling and vast sentient soundscapes
Among leading producers of the international dark ambient scene with a cinematic edge, Simon Heath (owner of the indie label Cryo Chamber and mastermind behind the two classic projects Atrium Carceri, Sabled Sun) is back with one entrancing, emotionally moving and delicately spooky spacious ambient isolationist opus.
2149 is a great companion of previous Sable Sun’s vaporous and bleak ambient synthscapes. Conceptually and emotionally this album immerses the listener in compelling and vast sentient soundscapes, of dark beauty and mournful quality. The sound textures are mostly structured around sparse piano lines of tearful airs, groaning drones, massive synth thrills, cybernetic-like swells and retro-synth pulsating grooves. Rapidly it comes to mind that this new effort stands probably among the most downright melodious and lamentation albums of Cryo Chamber but also can be seen as the most electro-kinetic / post-techno-ish effort ever designed by Simon Heath.
A subtle sense of cinematic drama surges to remind the best tracks offered in recent albums such as Black Corner Den (a collaborative release between Atrium Carceri and Cities Last Broadcast). All in all and with contrasting ideas, 2149 summons chilling ambient keyboards upon the debris of a decaying, faceless and engulfed industrial civilization. A sombre atmospheric liturgy for the endtime.
