These eight compositions feature atmospheric notes, delicate tones, and drones, but the real attraction of Domus is the organic beauty of its flora and fauna.

In December 2023, Philippe Neau released Domus; its aural surroundings still strew the landscape with ominous, dark ambient layers stretching as far as the eye can see. The word “house,” which appears as the title of this audio work in Latin, is specifically understood to denote “a structure designed for either a nuclear or extended family and located in a city or town.” Perhaps these are soundtracks for such structures; nonetheless, the result is utterly engaging. Shadows appear and disappear within these fluid translucent forms as field recordings and peaceful natural sounds erode carefully. It feels as though only wildlife remain to occupy the remaining landscape and/or structures.

These eight compositions feature atmospheric notes, delicate tones, and drones, but the real attraction of Domus is the organic beauty of its flora and fauna. The album’s second half physically comes to life and maintains the pace, whereas the first half consists of ethereal soundtracks and experimental components.
