øjeRum :: Without Blood The Sun Darkens (Cyclic Law)

This one will lead you to the icy continent of lost memories and sorrowful reveries.

This is one real surprise and it’s unexpected to discover the new øjeRum (aka Paw Grabowski) signed by Cyclic Law. I’m an avid follower of craft-based, semi-acoustic / classical and emotionally drifting ambient releases from Fluid Audio. I discovered the sound production of Paw Grabowski thanks to this indie label which has a solid and distinctive musical signature in the panorama of modern days ambient music. øjeRum’s musical ambition and stylistic path are very close to those defended by regular artists signed on Fluid Audio, Eilean Rec, Hibernate, Home Normal, and all key DIY alternative indie labels which conciliate home-made avant-folk with softly shifting ambient soundscapes. I was definitely curious to give a listen on Without Blood The Sun Darkens as it might have been theoretically quite distant to the more widespread spacious, ominous, and cinematic dark-ambient realms of Cyclic Law’s current production.

In the absolute, Without Blood The Sun Darkens could have been easily published by the abovementioned imprints, however, I applaud the challenge handled by Cyclic Law. To those who are familiar with øjeRum’s music—the quiet, fragile, bittersweet, and poetical etherealism of some of his early works have been slightly erased in order to let this space develop mesmerizing, expressive, and morose static drones. The result reveals equally transportive and unearthly moments that will ravish every listener in love with isolated ambient melancholia and languid dronescapes of Tape Loop Orchestra, Celer and also a few artists I published in the past, notably Belaqua Shua. A captivating, repetitive, and brooding autumnal ambient requiem that is easily recommended. This one will lead you to the icy continent of lost memories and sorrowful reveries.
