Pascal Savy :: Simulacra (Cyclic Law)

With its incantatory tranced-out noisy percolations and moody-esque pulsating minimalism, this album has something majestic and hypnotic which claims to reach the dark arcana of some paranormal regions.

A darkly enveloping, brooding and harrowing ambient album

After the hiatus then dissolution of Cold Meat Industry a label such as Cyclic Law raises high and back again the thrilling sounds and brooding subterranean world of industrial ambient music. A number of pioneering projects of the now defunct CMT actually found a new home thanks to this label, also Cryo Chamber (whose musical direction is more turned to downtempo/cinematic music with a subtle dark ambient edge) and in a certain extent Denovali and Consouling Sounds—even if they encompass broader genres.

Today I regret the lack of diversity and richness that used to exist in terms of creative offers (regarding those underground electronic subgenres) when I compare to another moment in time with key labels such as Malignant, Divine Comedy, Beasts of Prey, Ant-Zen, Eibon, or Loki Foundations. However not everything is lost or vanished and Frederic from Cyclic Law has attempted to launch a symbolical and efficient bridge between this nostalgic era driven by emblematic projects (notably with several reissues) and rising projects of modern days dark (chilling) ambient music.

If you are an avid follower of meaningful and charismatically bleak ambient music, Pascal Savy is a name you must be aware of. It’s good to see his new album signed on Cyclic Law, reaching new branches of electronic music. I discovered his sound production with Eilean Rec which already made a good impression. Simulacra is a darkly enveloping, brooding and harrowing ambient album with rampant blissful atmospheric crescendos. With its incantatory tranced-out noisy percolations and moody-esque pulsating minimalism, this album has something majestic and hypnotic which claims to reach the dark arcana of some paranormal regions. Easily one of the best materials published by Cyclic Law during the last few years. Somewhere between eerily synthscaping projects like Phragments, Atrium Carceri and Treha Sektori.

Simulacra is available on Cyclic Law. [Bandcamp]
