A pleasantly relaxed transmission of minimalist, nearly imperceptible soundtracks from Mono Hideout’s Visions EP for Adventurous Music ignites something extraordinary and surreal. It seems as though the artist’s goal was to maintain the entire audio production working within a limitless space of ambience and quietness. Opener “Inner Spring” pushes atmospheric stretches into a drifting 9-minute time capsule where translucent synths practically disappear, and its subtlety is paramount. Although “Blurred Vision” looks to find a darker channel to broadcast its fluctuating drone, “Niblock” maintains a parallel path, with its light pulses interspersed roughly halfway through.
Mono Hideout takes solace in these settings and/or distinctive sonic visions. While “Leaving” is a relatively short piece compared to its siblings, it maintains a hypnotic feel with minuscule blips and bleeps floating weightlessly as “Weakness,” a noisier yet still somewhat fuzzy background invasion, uses melodic notes and fleeting frequencies to help maintain pace. In “Last Visions,” which closes, the sun begins to sink and the entire landscape is covered in a magical darkness. Soft, flowing ambient sparks stroll with us in this far-off, hazy panoramic collection as Visions emits a defocused, dreamy, and blissful soundscape from the outer edges.
