EA & Θ :: Sense Less (Adventurous Music)

An array of buzzing synths and found-sounds are meticulously connected as the dynamic between controlled and improvised electronics coalesces.

Cascading melodic/ambient structures that seem formless

Brothers Themis Altintzoglou (aka Θ—a sound artist based in Norway) and Euripides Altintzoglou (aka EA—a senior lecturer in Fine Art & Photography at the University of Wolverhampton,) together unveiled Sense Less in mid-May on Adventurous Music, a 32-minute composition that collects a smattering of modular dust, debris, drones, and tones in one massive echo chamber. An array of buzzing synths and found-sounds are meticulously connected as the dynamic between controlled and improvised electronics coalesces. The ebb and flow feels effortless, as if propelled by a small engine traversing light and dark shadows, subtle blips and bleeps, and cascading melodic/ambient structures that seem formless as they entangle themselves throughout. Eventually, the final minutes show signs of additional life; perhaps it’s just my ears, but there’s something shifting way off in the distance. Is it senseless audio flutter or peculiar soundscapes to fall inside of? Either way, we’re captivated.
