A masterclass in minimal, ethereal electro-nics
Mastrapa’s latest audio work, Hollow Metric, is a masterclass in minimal, ethereal electro-nics. The landscape opens with the saccharine hum of “Placebo,” its atmospheric swell and industrial glitch weaves layers of evolved ambient shapes. “Cement Solitude” continues the trajectory, drifting through spacious, micro-grooves that invite deep introspection. These sound waves pulse from a distant realm, where breakbeat structures like “Reprieve” intertwine in blissful complexity, only to be darkened by an emotive, atmospheric undercurrent. Finally, “Vessel Twelve” drifts by like a whispered dream, its downtempo rhythm and fuzzy bleeps echoing into nothingness as the EP carefully dissolves. In all, Hollow Metric is an engaging and mind-bending experience with each piece intricately tethered to the other; taking us back a few years while seamlessly connecting to the present.
