Etudes is the second delightful soloing offer by electronic sound artist Igor Yagilev, whose name is mostly known by Igloo readers for heading the high class emotional fuzzed-out ambient-drone duet Gamardah Fungus. Etudes is a colorful album with roots in soothing electronic minimalism, downtempo and instrumental shoegazing textures. A few tracks admit a light, aerial, and refreshing tone while others aspire to a spiritual transcendence as in the sorrowful, repetitive and beautifully layered “Melancholia.” Some hypno-ish minimal details approach slowly moving chill-wave aspects.
