Pjusk & Arovane :: Svev (Polar Seas)

This new album presents intricate, diversified and ultimately swelling soundscapes of magnetic grandiosity.

A few months ago the indie publisher Polar Seas proudly announced the release of this quite superb collaborative effort between two leading personalities of modern days downtempo-micro tonal ambient movement. Uwe Zahn (aka Arovane) is a challenging sound artist whose production has been notably welcomed by the notorious n5MD. We can also notice his past offers in duet for Time Released Sound or A Strangely Isolated Place. Pjusk is a minimalist and soothing melodious electronic duet based in Norway, highly appreciated by listeners of hidden gems from mysteriously chilling ambient music and analog moves; he’s released music with the likes of 12k, Somewherecold, and Glacial Movements.

This new album presents intricate, diversified and ultimately swelling soundscapes of magnetic grandiosity. The enveloping textures are beautifully merged with glitch-esque motifs, mellow acoustic modern classical chords and even retro-ish hypnagogic pulses as in the obsessive “Repro.” Singular beatless slumbering moves are sometimes intertwined with poignant meditative melodies as in the aquatic “Scrutiny.” Impressionistic minimal tones can remind Roedelius’ excursions in sound experimentalism as in the aerial, fragile and introspective “Svev Theme.” Enchanting glitchy ambiences, discreet detached organic melodies and meandering vaporous textures move seamlessly from one track to another for pure aural bliss.

A perfectly written and executed electronic ambient album which can easily seduces fans of unobtrusive, velveting, and moody atmospheric synth-scapes of Echospace, Loscil, Fennesz, Leandro Fresco, and Carbon Base Lifeforms.
