Flowing patterns, textures, and deft drums
Serge Geyzel’s audible signature emerges distinctively from the swirling chaos of abstract electronic music. His flowing patterns, textures, and deft drums exude a natural ease, each element imbued with a sense of grace. The calming essence of his compositions are emotive and time-stretched—now shared with the ever-eclectic Florida-based imprint EC Underground on Visions I Lost.
“And Last” begins with deep, rumbling low-end harmony and jungle beats that weave an enchanting spell, building into a sonic powerhouse. It is within these darker, more complex layers that Geyzel draws forth moments of sublime power. “Mission Impossible” propels itself with an air of mystery, its tumbling rhythms and vocoder distortions straying off-course, while the magnetic basslines of “I Was Late Because I Was Doing Music” evoke a sense of transparency, sinking ever lower with each note. The title track unfolds in two parts, each adopting a downtempo, almost improvised jazz approach. And lastly, “Not Really” ventures into early experimental instrumental hip-hop, conveying its message with subtle, yet impactful, artistry.
