Francis Theberge :: Doom Jazz Variations EP (Adventurous Music)

Blending even darker field recordings since the release of The Burial Of William B. and doom-infested ambient scraped propulsion, there are deeper textures, timbres and tones on this four-piece collection.

A wildly dense foray into the blurry unknown

Thick drone slabs are stretched to their breaking points on Doom Jazz Variations by Francis Theberge, the multi-talented Montreal-based video artist. Blending even darker field recordings since the release of The Burial Of William B. and doom-infested ambient scraped propulsion, there are deeper textures, timbres and tones on this four-piece suite. Shredded into hundreds of found sounds with subtle melodic notes, the three variations often create low pressure wind gusts and eerie, turbulent noises that scatter and almost come to life. It all coalesces with Hendekagon’s closing remix where nebulous dub techno slivers are buried beneath the originals looming ambient atmosphere. A wildly dense foray into the blurry unknown, perhaps what the storms on Jupiter might sound like.
