Eight tracks spanning over 45 minutes, Fail and Hendekagon team up on the aptly titled Rust—a decayed set of noise-filled ambient constructs that evolve, devolve and cycle their way through turbulent synthesizer soundscapes. The fascination with iron ore (rust) and its constant death and rebirth—mined from the ground and utilized on iron and steel structures—showcases the duo’s audible imagination once exposed to oxygen. Time-stretched and gritty dark-ambient moments persist, only to be sandblasted to reveal their fractured and crumpled foundations. Perhaps the darkness of each piece, the falling atmospheric ash and hypnotic sequences that encapsulate Rust are only just a fraction of what the duo set out to accomplish.
