Francis Theberge :: The Burial Of William B. (Adventurous Music)

Francis Theberge spoils us with five contagious dark ambient movements that quite literally relaxes and confounds the listener from start to finish.

Each saturated pulse, click, whir, and windy passage reveals its own flow

A blend of field recordings, gritty textures, and evolving drones that are time stretched to their fullest extent, Francis Theberge creates expansive soundtrack moments and “little movies” meant for dark cavernous voids or to simply relax to.

Broken into four parts and a director’s cut—each saturated pulse, click, whir, and windy passage reveals its own flow through which the artist extracts dense sonic structures sounding like an infinite loop. Surreal landscapes unfold from the furthest recesses of our mind where one can hear fading voices just beyond the layers of thick sedimentary rock.

As a meditative extended player, each piece compliments the next—getter darker and darker as the minutes float by. The closing cut is a sixteen minute opus collecting raw data, sludge, debris, sand, and atmospheric tones as an eroded melody begins to take shape only to drift and fall apart as the wilderness calls out our name.

Was this a dream?
Was this simply a figment of our imagination?

Francis Theberge spoils us with five contagious dark ambient movements that quite literally relaxes and confounds the listener from start to finish. A welcomed retreat and an early 2021 highlight.
