Chaircrusher :: Stars Have Fallen (Triplicate)

Taking us back to early DeFocus, Delsin and Neo Ouija days where lightly sprinkled electronics birthed IDM’s trajectory into melodic and blissful moments, Chaircrusher captures familiar terrain with luminous sonic bubbles.

A symbiosis of delicate microforms, each with their own unique arch

Kent Williams’ Chaircrusher project continues to push boundaries with captivating artwork by Chang Terhune. Stars Have Fallen ventures down more melodic and subdued IDM streams with an emphasis on classic Detroit-inspired open spaces—technoid spheres revealed on the opening track “Some Stars Have Fallen” choreographs this mood perfectly. Taking us back to early DeFocus, Delsin and Neo Ouija days where lightly sprinkled electronics birthed IDM’s trajectory into melodic and blissful moments, Chaircrusher captures familiar terrain with luminous sonic bubbles. Crushing each pixel with vivid color—the lighter tracks (ref. “Bobble,” “Weathered,” and “Abnegate”) are sun soaked and relaxed ambient noodles that have just the right amount of texture and grit, form and disfunction, yet come across as abstract and immersive time capsules in and of themselves. In a mere 60-minute traverse, Stars Have Fallen details a symbiosis of delicate microforms, each with their own unique arch. Tracks like “Debouch” engage in downtempo strains with just enough momentum to keep the stars from fallen even further as “Mutt” cascades through serene modular echoes, metallic, and saccharine notes that could drift for an eternity.
