A celebration of community, collaboration and creative commons
Key actor and indie label in the vast panorama of modern day electronica and sound art, Mahorka started its creative adventure back in 2000-2001 with strongly aligned ideas to participate actively in advanced experimental music worldwide and from various cultural horizons. Definitely multifaceted and moved by a wide range of electronic music from downtempo, IDM, chill-out, to futuristic pop and minimal ambient, droning dream chords, and even abstract, atonal experimental improvisations, Mahorka invited several representative artists from their vast catalog to contribute to Making Things Happen: Netlabel Day 10th Anniversary Compilation.
Each selection shines brilliantly with audacious and adventurous sonic experimentation which subverts itself into narrow categories which immerse the listener in an intriguing world of sounds built on moving electronic tonalities. Despite the fact that I’ve covered a handful of Mahorka releases, l’m all too familiar with their vast productions, so this sonic assemblage also allowed me to dive into the music of newer projects.
An authentic passion ::
Over the years, the label has released iconic projects while also making space for promising and innovative new ones. Its releases are available in multiple physical formats, accompanied by a digital version—all offered at very affordable prices. This approach reflects the label’s core values, driven by generosity and an authentic passion for spreading the lush, radiant, and refreshing waves of electronic music from all corners of the planet.
All in all, this compilation presents a dense, challenging, eclectic, and vibrant array of previously unreleased tracks, with familiar projects navigating between beat-laden, hypnotic electronica; heart-moving, textured ambient; darker illbient textures; abstract exercises in microsound; and free-flowing, imaginative instrumentals. It’s a celebration of community, collaboration and creative commons.
