Subtle Bodies delivers tape music and looped technics at the finest in terms of emotional transportation and spiritual ravishment. The result is tenderly soothing and the defective almost glitch-esque nature of the fragmented piano sequences add an atmosphere of warmth melancholia and sorrowing nostalgia.
Forgotten ghosts seem to populate this universe
Emblematic label with a rich production in the world of indie electronic music, Lo Recordings (UK) is back with the new release of minimalist sound producer and textural electronic music artisan Francis Morning. It is the first time l hear about this artist but judging by the amount of ideas, sentient looping tones, fragile then melodic repetitive patterns, l’m happy that he found a new home to reach a potential wider audience.
Forgotten ghosts seem to populate this universe made of plaintive memories but also of devotional reveries. Subtle Bodies is a fascinating blurry retro delicacy built on decaying piano ritournelles and detached evocative motifs. A subtly crafted based motivation accompanies these intimate pieces to make the ensemble a meaningful sonic document for the ears. Micro-melodies flow in the humming air making Subtle Bodies a great discovery and certainly the album of the month in my opinion. A worthy musical experience for listeners of avant-garde hauntology sound wanderings as well as modern classical ambient-ish lonesome ballads. Somewhere between Marcus Fischer, Phil Tomsett, Farewell Alaska, Palette, Field Tape and Adrian Lane. Highly recommended.
