Aseq :: Thrones (KOMBINE)

These compact sci-fi-infused auditory slabs transport us back a number of years as they continuously shift and fade away, building up to an inevitable breakdown.

For the artists’ own Swiss-based KOMBINE label, Aseq (also known as Matteo Mazreku, Soul Data Transfer) presents Thrones, an eight-piece suite that deftly navigates across micro-electronic glitch veils and melodic miniatures. A multitude of flowing rhythmic layers and solemnity accent each composition—made up of bitesize pieces surrounded by a myriad of blips and bleeps. These compact sci-fi-infused auditory slabs transport us back a number of years as they continuously shift and fade away, building up to an inevitable breakdown.

In addition to parallel and relaxed glitch-scapes created by contemporary sound sculptors like VAAG, Suumhow, Hexalyne, Romanowitch, Enabl.ed, and The Fellow Passenger, Aseq also seamlessly incorporates elements of Proem, Lexaunculpt, and Funckarma to create his own signature sonic flutter. Another standout of 2024, Thrones‘ ethereal and laid-back vibration transcends its abstract façade and gradually fades into pitter-patter clicks, cuts, and mechanical constructions.
