Si Begg :: Energie Electrique EP (Central Processing Unit)

From what seem to be effortless rhythms and textures morphed around robotic synth shapes, Energie Electrique is unsurprisingly a perfect fit for Sheffield-based CPU.

Electro and robotic synth acrobatics

Four tracks from one of the originals of electro and robotic synth acrobatics. The UK sound sculptor and braindance maestro digs deep into his machine boxes to extract four rugged electronic footprints with “Energy” pulling from all angles; its clinical beatwork, rhythmic acid flow, and vocoder splash is in top form. Electro and glitch fluids expand on “Buckfunk Beats” with fissured grooves venturing into Kraftwerkian soil as the slower-twitching fizz-fuzz of “MS10 Machine Funk” gravitates towards crunchy blips and bleeps panoramas. This is where Si Begg really shines; his use of syncopation and melodic manipulation has always been his signature, fracturing drums and disjointed breaks like very few can do so well. Closing with the dystopian beauty of “Electro P1 B,” the genre that Si Begg articulates is so well done, there’s just not much more to say than, “wow.” It’s just that good; from what seem to be effortless rhythms and textures morphed around robotic synth shapes, Energie Electrique is unsurprisingly a perfect fit for Sheffield-based CPU.
