Silicon Scally :: Soft Robotics EP (Central Processing Unit)

Soft Robotics indeed, this is refined robot music with a heartbeat that remains timeless.

Pushing the boundaries just a bit farther

Carl Finlow (aka Silicon Scally) continues to capture the ears (and feet) of avid electro enthusiasts; the adeptness and control of his machinery is at the highest level, pushing the boundaries just a bit farther every time and keeping his tried-and-true signature rhythms intact.

Expertly produced with attention to fine details and low-thudding bass lines, the title track (and “Spin Ratio,” for that matter) harken back to vintage synths and classic electro-nics (think of the 3-D’s—Drexciya, Datathief, Dopplereffekt, and also Japanese Telecom) with an emphasis on melodic bubbles bursting at the seams where fans of Solvent and Lowfish will also gravitate towards. The aptly titled future worlds of “Jitters” jumps miles ahead yet sees a path of 80s sci-fi soundtracks and curious blips and bleeps cycling around old-school tones drifting in the background. Video game grooves and subtle bits and pieces ricochet off of tempered glass on “Super Fluid Tones,” its hypnotic charm flows smoothly while maintaining a Krafterk-ian flare and mood.

Soft Robotics indeed, this is refined robot music with a heartbeat that remains timeless. Artist parallels aside, Silicon Scally is at the top of his game.
