Blending darker shades with lighter sonic hues, and providing all the right amounts of crunchy IDM flutter we would typically expect from these sound sculptors.

Colliding soundscapes and saturated electronics

Such a collaboration was simply meant to happen. Here we find colliding soundscapes and saturated electronics merging with densely layered downtempo and swelling ambient bliss. The nostalgia and sheer contrasting beauty revealed on the aptly titled Coldfire is utterly sweet; blending darker shades with lighter sonic hues, and providing all the right amounts of crunchy IDM flutter we would typically expect from these sound sculptors.

For those with a propensity for gritty rhythms that build up and eventually break down, where roughened textures are counterbalanced with smoldering melody strands, and where crackling voices surround our senses, these ten pieces pack a punch. And while some tracks (including “Morning,” “Coldfire,” and “Future State”) could have benefited from several more minutes of evolution within their collapsing sparks, highlights take shape courtesy of the drum-infested “Minus Take Away,” the eerily saccharine flickering pulse of “Here Comes The Resolution,” the sincerely scattered polish of “Shuffling Into The Corner,” and the cinematic BOC slivers on the closing piece “After The End.” Such a powerfully engulfing opus that will hopefully yield additional productions.

Coldfire is available on Pingdiscs. [Bandcamp]
