Faded Saga :: Faded Saga (ENRECO)

Sun-soaked, abstract, and vintage-sounding electronics with fuzzy melodic rhythms.

The most recent release by Faded Saga has been (accurately) described as hazy, nocturnal, surreal, textured sounds and long echoes from Oakland, California using vintage synthesizers, drum machines, and guitars generating noise. We are reminded of an earlier time when artists like Broadcast, B. Fleischmann, Plone, and Plod provided fun-packed soundscapes tied to light blips and bleeps, but more importantly, a positive outlook on the moods that these instruments can create—sun-soaked, abstract, and vintage-sounding electronics with fuzzy melodic rhythms.

With this 13-track collection, Faded Saga seems to have let it all go, letting the flow of each piece speak for itself. It’s a voyage back in time; pure nostalgia that’s presented tastefully and thoughtfully on vinyl and digital media. Each sonic snapshot holds floating synth tones and pulses along with bursting bubbles; the standouts being “Collision Twins,” “A View Through,” “Afterimage,” “Exit Light,” and the ending piece “Unseen Distance.” While Faded Saga captures the spirit of buoyant electronica, the entire album feels cohesive, like one long slice of life preserved in thirteen time-stretched compositions.
