Room Of Wires :: Test Subject (Self-Released)

A mind bending collection of late night experimental electronics that may not carve new pathways, but will certainly pull you right in. Growling bass, sweeping soundscapes, and disgruntled electronics from outer space, each piece is a rugged behemoth.

From a duo who have never met, Room Of Wires returns with a seven track, self-released Test Subject mini-LP that packs a punch. Following last year’s White Transit, ROW treads similar terrain—growling bass, sweeping soundscapes, and disgruntled electronics from outer space, each piece is a rugged behemoth.

“Train Jacker 2” and “Doom Hall” are prime examples of the above-mentioned trajectory— jackhammer beats and industrial edges slowly break apart with layered synth work and a fractured electro shell. “The Darkness Has Returned” flows through a cavernous void, atmospheric debris scattered about alien vocal bits as sonic shadows take over. A mechanical onslaught of noise, clangs, and dystopian rhythms take shape on “Bone Haul” as the ethereal “Lost Rooms” sways in a mysterious post-ambient/goth vein.

With subtle exposed breaks on “Crackle Charl,” ROW reveal their adept focus on smashing hundreds of disparate sounds into a cohesive whole. The title track—a sum of its parts—is deconstructed via post-industrial slabs retrofitted with utter uniformity, and yet otherworldly synth stabs keep it all together.
