Here, isolation and cooperation coexist within the confines of dark electronics as lighter shapes and shades lurk in the background.
A hard-hitting celebration
Room of Wires’ latest release, Decayed, is a hard-hitting celebration of isolation and collaboration. It comprises nine remixes in all, with the second track by the sound sculpting duo who have (still) never met, RoW. On their second selection, “Surplus No Veil remix,” glitch and subdued vocals intersperse a melodic flow as its cinematic post-industrial core deepens.
The slow motion layers of “Block Hammer remix” by 4T Thieves ultimately displays its musical and emotional charm by carving a trail through darker downtempo passages—a definitive highlight. “The Darkness Has Returned remix” by Tomoroh Hidari is a faster-paced composition unraveling disturbed sound-scrapes full of intensely mechanized percussion. “Artauds Aneurysms (Train Jacker 2 remix),” a closing track by daz disley, features fractured industrial noise not to be missed.
Decayed has plenty to offer; musicians like RoW, Peltiform, Cognition Delay, and The Dronefynder General contribute their own sandblasted renditions to counterbalance this otherwise intricate and elaborate collection. Here, isolation and cooperation coexist within the confines of dark electronics as lighter shapes and shades lurk in the background.
Decayed is available on Section 27. [Bandcamp]
