The Dubnihilist’s latest half-dozen for Dystopian Dub Discotheque is fully charged with subtle dub-techno strands combined with minimal dub-techno extrusions and are deftly handled with sonic precision.

Intoxicatingly gorgeous

If you’re not familiar with Oliver Stummer, and you’re into abstract sonic trajectories, you may want to investigate him further as his ties to the exploratory world of electronic music goes back a couple of decades. His latest half-dozen for Dystopian Dub Discotheque is fully charged with subtle dub-techno strands (“Schottenring”) combined with minimal dub-techno extrusions (“Kirchengasse”) and are deftly handled with sonic precision. The calmer moments of “Joanelligasse” and “Spittelauerplatz ” dive into Pole-sounding landscapes where distilled ambient flutter and minuscule rhythms are carefully rendered. And as the EP ebbs and flows, the way Stummer is able to capture these foggy compositions (“Veronikagasse”) is utterly engulfing, giving the listener just enough breathing room to find our way through the mist. Intoxicatingly gorgeous.

Releasing music for over 20 years as Tomoroh Hidari and under a variety of other guises (his Namelessness Is Legion, The Dubnihilist, Oliver Stummer, 明日の音) on labels Isolate Records, Record Label Records, Mahorka, Ivory Bunker and more. He has collaborated with a variety of artists, such as Takeshi Muto (Phoenecia) Subjex, Hans Platzgumer, raxil4, Okinawa Electric Girl Saya and more. ~ Press Release
