The Dubnihilist returns with five tracks of dense downtempo dub techno; Friday 22:05 contains four versions of the title track—two of which are remixes by Mono Peninsula and Autonomaton. The opening (title) piece begins with burbling rhythms and tranquilized bass, followed by acidic ambient washes floating above a light electronica sheen on “Another Day.” With dub-techno slivers and micro-glitch morsels slipping through, Mono Peninsula’s version is a little more minimal and abstract—the track widens sound-space with The Orb-like pulsars. While the “3:00 AM” concluding rendition is a 10-minute epic of floating atmospheric density and swirling drone shapes that morph and shift into glitch-laden, low-flying bubbles of chill-out noise, Autonomaton provides additional raw echoes and windy stretches. A powerful and tranquilized dub sojourn not to be missed.
Friday 22:05 is available on Dystopian Dub Discotheque. [Bandcamp]
