4T Thieves :: Nomad’s Requiem (Werra Foxma)

Sound ventures through another adventurous portal

What’s to say that’s not already been said? 4T Thieves’ inspiring kaleidoscope of sound ventures through another adventurous portal. This time, Werra Foxma takes the opportunity to release these audible gems submerged in nostalgic flutter. Opening downtempo strands and melodic loops cascade around broken beat patches and distant synth washes, not surprisingly.

Nomad’s Requiem ambient nature can’t be ignored, either; its subtle background flourishes and drifting tones tend to merge together in sweet harmony, especially as evidenced on “The Day’s Mirror,” to the tranquil drums and blurry memory flashes of the title track. Highlights come in waves; “Modern Conversations,” perhaps the cream of the crop, was reconstructed from Curious Inversions’ original. As the Boards of Canada continues to keep its fans bewildered in anticipation of what’s next for the Scottish duo, 4T Thieves continues to evolve on his own as the BOC hues gradually begin to fade. The closing three pieces, and especially “Times Past,” provide just enough downtrodden ambient electronica to take us back, way back.

Nomad’s Requiem is a tribute to the people of Ukraine.
