The press release accurately states that this is ambient braindance from Italy; and we fully agree. The musicians (Marco Simioni, Matteo Mazreku, and Francesco Pio Nitti) have never actually met; instead they’ve cloud collaborated, and the result is a mixture of old-school electronics, acid, breaks, techno, and electro that submerges itself within layers of sublime ambient undertones and drones.
Opening with the sublime “Perception,” Qualia creates quality electronica—bass beats rumble and acidic tones form into lost Sci-Fi soundtracks. “VV Cephei A” delves into deeper cosmic atmospheres; low flying turbulence surrounds a serene landscape of dust and debris—nostalgia and bewilderment rolled into one capsule. The title track lifts off with low-end echoes, densely packed technoid noises, and blurred acid lines. What we have here is an overarching, sandblasted track to help define the universe and its many mysteries. Closing with the static fizz-fuzz of “Until I Break Apart,” Qualia merge their sonic energies into a left-field techno smorgasbord that’s simply undefinable. Infinitely propelling us into an emotional surplus of mangled electronics from the upper atmosphere, this EP is utterly absorbing.
