Defunkt Unofficial Day For Night Afterparties :: Dec. 16-17 (Houston, TX)

While the Day For Night festival is set to heat up Houston for a long weekend, the real action for fans of more adventurous electronic music will happen at two warehouse parties hosted by local collective Defunkt.

While the Day For Night festival is set to heat up Houston for a long weekend, the real action for fans of more adventurous electronic music will happen at two warehouse parties hosted by local collective Defunkt. Headlined by international heavyweights Bogdan Raczynski (playing his first US gig in over a decade) and Ceephax Acid Crew (of Rephlex fame), the parties also feature UK melodic breakcore artist Gareth Clarke and several top-notch US IDM veterans from Schematic: Richard Devine, Romulo Del Castillo (of Phoenecia and Soul Oddity), and Otto Von Schirach, along with Surachai, Subjex, Terminal 11, Xander Harris (fresh off a lengthy tour with Mogwai), and a sizable supporting cast of Texas producers like Cygnus (DFW), Daed (Houston), and Dylan Cameron (Austin). Both nights promise new musical discoveries centered around “techno, electro, braindance, breakcore, digital hardcore, acid house, and jungle music.” Most of the performers on the bill favor live performances with hardware and modular synths over laptops, and if last year’s Defunkt afterparties are any indication, this year’s nights are not to be missed.
