Mind Maps 7 stands as another richly rewarding chapter in an extraordinary body of electronic music—one that continues to push gently at the boundaries of ambient, downtempo and sample-based composition without ever losing its sense of warmth or wonder. Long may these maps continue to unfold, pointing listeners towards the kind of electronic music that still feels capable of surprising, transporting and quietly reshaping the landscape around it.
A few weeks back, we were lucky enough to share the booth with the always excellent Neud Photo. Robbie hopped on the train and made it by the skin of his teeth to Luv Bar where the pair served some a cocktail of electro, new beat and even some Italo.
Pulse Five is not just a retrospective on the wonders of FSOL, it is a celebration, a point of return and new beginnings for listeners to experience the intrepid audio endeavors of these sonic sculptors.
Yage have taken a great bunch of pieces and turned them into something even more incredible, while scattering their own works (under the guise of FSOL) here and there.
As we drift downstream, the bliss only continues, and makes it harder to fathom how such a coherent and beautifully flowing album can come along and feel like an old friend from the first listen.
Everything on this release is easy to put on again and again, with so much going on it’s virtually impossible to take it all in during one sitting. Careful which track you choose to repeat though as you could easily lose your week to this one.
