Even as the music voyages across the celestial empyrean of space, he opens up new territory, diving downwards into the underworld where the mysteries of Orpheus (poet, musician, prophet) are encountered in their cavernous depths. Here the Orphic lyre is a synthesizer. Here it is a collection of psychotronic modules who route electricity to the point where it tingles with lucid scintillation. This is a third ear music awakening the inner senses to subtle vibrations.
Rusted in the Salt Air is a deeply atmospheric sonic journey that blends natural field recordings from the windswept Suffolk coast with lush, slow-burning electronic textures created using vintage synthesizers and spring reverb. Inspired by the haunting landscapes of Orford Ness and the literary reflections in Sebald’s Rings of Saturn, the album evokes themes of decay, memory, and transformation through immersive soundscapes rich with birdsong, wave wash, and ghostly drones.
Selected Remixes reflects Zach Frizzell’s collaborative ethos and transformative ear, reworking tracks from across the ambient and experimental spectrum. With his signature analog warmth, chthonic textures, and spectral drift, zakè reshapes source material into a cohesive suite of deep-listening reinterpretations that reveal his intuitive sonic alchemy.
Here, looped beats, sharp-panned synth lines, sparkling sampled piano, and glitchy “post-rock” electronica remind me of the early n5MD releases from the likes of Lights Out Asia, Epic45, and Near The Parenthesis.
Fragile Peaks is a deeply engaging (in the sense of the quality of engagement being ‘deep’) slow burner, though that descriptor might misrepresent the intensity of a piece that, fire-wise, is more of a smoulder—a low-lit one at that.
