In Rotation across the past several weeks and months, this multi-view column surveys a shifting electronic landscape shaped by bold and forward-thinking artists. Expect fractured rhythms, glitch aesthetics, abstract experimentation, mechanical precision, industrial pressure, melodic detours, and bass-heavy electro transmissions from Alavux, Annie Hall, Delta Division, Koloah, Low Battery Orchestra, Modul, neuroboy, Nocto, R.I.O.T, Trofusin, and Voltaire.
Highlighting hundreds of releases in 2024 (and allowing December to set in), we’ve compiled a list of our favorites along with links to their corresponding Igloo reviews and release pages. Since the lists are arranged alphabetically by artist—and a snapshot of tracks are featured in our Soundcloud playlist along with selected Bandcamp tracks and random artwork selections—there are, as usual, no winners or runners-up.
These eight tracks, ranging from the mid-90s IDM boom to today’s high-level production qualities, use lost time capsules and sophisticated synth-techno fissures to create detailed sonic shadows and throbbing breaks, bass, and broken beats.
